Artist Statement

Surrealism is my favorite art movement. Though my work may not make that fact obvious, as it’s in many ways contrasting, the writings of André Breton and Comte de Lautréamont affixed my perception and approach. As Surrealism dealt with a sort of reality from the unconscious and found beauty in chance association, I deal with reality in a different sense. My work often coaxes the reality that truth and honesty brings. To not know the truth, or more severely, to be deceived is to operate within a false reality. To me, beauty is the knowledge and embrace of actual circumstance. The marvelous is a beckoning of honesty, the coveting of reality as near as we can pin it down.

Perspective is how I most reliably approach art. I mean perspective in its many senses. This may be literal and physical perspective as a means to an end or it may be my drive to create a new perspective for an object, process, interaction or assumption. I regularly strive for impact and intricate substance. I make no decisions on a piece without specific reasoning.

I feel little allegiance to a specific process or category of ideas. I will utilize whatever seems most appropriate or purposeful. Though I am very enthusiastic about the aforementioned approach, I will not let a strict adherence to its practice inhibit new ideas or direction.

In any case, I find what art expresses often stems from the same basic principles of the human condition and constitution. It’s just altered by experience and personal consideration to produce varied results.

My work is everyone’s work, from the proper perspective.
